IT architecture is core for building smart city in Hanoi

Appropriate mechanisms and policies will help Hanoi attract social resources and investment in infrastructure and smart services and utilities.

Hanoi finds itself at an early stage of creating a smart city and urgently needs to set up an information technology (IT) architecture which is commensurate with its development, according to local media.

Over the past years, Hanoi has shown a drastic transformation after joining the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The application of IT in many fields has brought initial positive results for the city.

Currently, three traffic video surveillance systems in the city are operated from control centers. For instance, the Traffic Control Center run by the Traffic Police receives real-time traffic data through cameras installed along the streets.

Another example is the Bus Operating Center under Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) which manages and operates the largest public transport network in the city. According to Transerco’s executives, IT has improved the management and quality of bus services, actively contributing to building a civilized and modern public transport.

The benefits of IT application is best shown in the settlement of administrative procedures through one-stop shop mechanism, step by step reducing the procedures for people.

Building an overall architecture

Gamuda Land’s Deputy General Director Dennis Ng Teck Yow said that building a smart city depends not only on technology but also smart infrastructure to create the connection.

According to experts, as smart city is operated based on data and information, Hanoi must find out what it needs, which technology is appropriate, how IT infrastructure will be applied to suit the city’s social infrastructure. Then, it is possible to shape an essential technical architecture for the smart city creation.

Appropriate mechanisms and policies will help Hanoi attract investments in infrastructure and smart services and utilities, experts suggest.
