According to the exhibition organizer, Chiharu Shiota is one of the most active and successful contemporary artists in the world today, whose works have been exhibited in many prestigious museums and exhibitions in the region.
She was selected as the artist representing Japan at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015), one of the world's oldest and most prestigious international art events, held every two years in Venice, Italy.
The artist is known for her spectacular and elaborate large-scale installations, which are meticulously and skillfully woven from hundreds of thousands of threads and usually occupy entire rooms.
Shiota says her inspiration often comes from a personal experience or emotion, which she expands into universal human concerns such as life, death, and relationships.
"I redefine the concept of memory and consciousness by collecting ordinary objects such as shoes, keys, beds, chairs, and clothes, and incorporating them into immense thread structures," she said.

The artist also explores this sense of "presence in absence" in her installations and intangible emotions in her sculptures, drawings, performance videos, photographs, and paintings.
The exhibition "A Tide of Emotions" includes new works created at the VCCA. In particular, the main work of the same title covers the vast space of the VCCA with a network of red threads, the artist's signature material, connected to the wooden boats on the floor.
Upon entering the exhibition, the viewer enters a surreal space and connects with a world full of memories and emotions.
Shiota's works are a convergence of beauty in both form and content, both making a strong visual impression and containing countless layers of deep meaning within.
"A Tide of Emotions", which relates to essential, universal concepts, will become a meaningful place for everyone, allowing them to see the world in a different way.
The impressive installation draws the attention of both locals and visitors to Hanoi. |
