Made-in-Vietnam Goods Week held in Hanoi to stimulate consumption

From now to the Lunar New Year, Hanoi's Department of Industry and Trade will continue to coordinate with agencies, People's Committees of districts and neighboring provinces and cities to organize around 30 stimulus programs and events.

Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Lan, deputy director of Hanoi's Department of Industry and Commerce, told Kinh te & Do thi about the city's trade promotion activities, including a week of promoting products made in Vietnam to stimulate domestic consumption and economic growth in the last months of 2020.

As the second wave of Covid-19 has been controlled, the municipal department of Industry and Commerce has launched the Vietnamese product week in districts and cities to revive economic activities. What have been the results so far?

Since October, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade in collaboration with Son Tay commune (Thach That district) has held the Made-in-Vietnam Goods Week in Hanoi with 100 booths, which attracted a lot of Vietnamese producers of farm produce, seafood, garment and textile, footwear, among others.

With an aim to honor high-quality Vietnamese products, under the campaign “Vietnamese buy Vietnamese goods”, the program is expected to stimulate domestic consumption of locally made items.

Moreover, the event also presents a platform for Vietnamese enterprises to seek potential partners and opportunities in foreign markets.

Vice Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said the goods week would also help local firms partly offset the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and aid the country’s economic recovery efforts.

Through the event, the Department has supported Vietnamese manufacturers and service providers to promote brands, seek business connections, develop markets, promote sales and shopping and entertainment activities in Hanoi.

Besides, suburban consumers and tourists have the opportunity to visit and purchase Vietnamese products whose quality, reasonable prices and clear origin are ensured.

In what way have the consumers and businesses benefited from the event?

The event has offered practical benefits to consumers, in particular by helping to stabilize the market and ensure social security. In particular, during the event, the Industry and Commerce Department invited retailers and supermarket operators to visit the stands, thus facilitating connections between local manufacturers and distribution channels. Links have then been created between investment in production, supply and consumption.

From now to the Lunar New Year (2021), the Department will continue to coordinate with agencies, branches, People's Committees of districts, towns and neighboring provinces and cities to organize around 30 stimulus programs and events. These are concrete activities and practical solutions to remove difficulties for businesses, create leverage for businesses to effectively implement the dual goals of preventing and fighting Covid-19 while boosting socio-economic development, promoting the growth of total retail sales and balancing supply and demand in Hanoi.

What solutions has the city’s industry and trade sector taken to prevent enterprises and manufactures from selling goods of poor quality at the Vietnamese Goods Week?

From now to the end of the year, consumer demand will increase sharply. Mindful of this, some manufacturers and enterprises will profiteer from selling counterfeit and substandard goods to consumers. To prevent this situation, the Department has invited businesses and manufacturers joining the event to ensure the traceability of goods, food hygiene and safety.

In addition, products sold at fairs as well as distribution systems in the city are strictly controlled by distributors and functional forces such as inspectors of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the Hanoi Market Surveillance, and the Steering Committee 389 against contraband and counterfeit goods of Hanoi.
