Over 100 market leaders, experts gathered at a workshop in Hanoi on January 14 to share and exchange their views, thoughts and concerns for the future of cold chain logistics.The event titled “Cold Chain Logistics – Technology and Future”, held for the first time in North Vietnam, was organized by GIZ’s Project Development Program (PDP) of the German Energy Solutions Initiative in coordination with the Vietnam Logistics Business Association.

Vietnam’s logistics sector is still at early development stage and the demand for complete logistics solutions from inland transportation, ocean shipping and air freight to warehousing, distribution and customs services is increasing significantly with forecast growth rate of 15%-20% until 2025.
Despite having 3,000 companies operating in Vietnam, the sector is fragmented with many small companies, under-developed infrastructures, old equipment and facilities, resulting in high loss, emission and costs.
The PDP has been providing technical support for many industrial enterprises in Vienam to assess investment feasibility when applying rooftop solar PV and business partnership with reputable German solar companies. PDP is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) within the scope of the German Energy Solutions Initiative and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
One example in Vietnamese cold chain sector is the 308 kWp rooftop solar system at Emergent Cold Vietnam in Bac Ninh province, supported by PDP. The solar generation covers 15% of annual power demand and helps to reduce 170 tons of CO2 emission from the facility.
