Michelin Guide 2025: Hanoi shines with new Green Star and Bib Gourmand entries

Hanoi remains a standout destination for food lovers exploring Vietnam's culinary landscape.

THE HANOI TIMES — The prestigious Michelin Guide has officially released its selection of restaurants for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Danang in 2025, marking another milestone in Vietnam’s rise as a global gastronomic destination.

The 2025 MICHELIN Guide selection in Vietnam features 181 restaurants, including nine one-star establishments, 63 Bib Gourmand eateries, and 109 MICHELIN-selected establishments.

Hanoi has a strong showing in this year’s selection with 10 new additions, including five Bib Gourmand and five Michelin-selected restaurants.

Most notably, Lamai Garden earned the city’s first-ever MICHELIN Green Star for its outstanding commitment to sustainable gastronomy. Led by chef and owner Hieu Trung Tran, Lamai Garden offers a seasonal tasting menu rooted in a contemporary farm-to-table philosophy.

The restaurant uses ingredients sourced from its farm in the northern province of Phu Tho, including garden herbs, ducks, and black pigs. The squid "noodle," inspired by pho chua (sour noodles), showcases the chef's creativity. Diners pass through a garden to reach the dining area, which has counter seating by the open kitchen.

The three Hanoi restaurants that retained their “One MICHELIN Star” status are Gia, renowned for its modern interpretation of Vietnamese cuisine; Hibana by Koki, a Japanese fine-dining destination tucked beneath the Capella Hanoi; and Tam Vi, which offers a nostalgic culinary journey through classic northern Vietnamese dishes.

Five other Hanoi restaurants won the “New Bib Gourmand” title, which recognizes restaurants that offer exceptional cuisine at moderate prices. These eateries include Ha Thanh Mansion, a beautifully restored villa serving refined Vietnamese fare across three artistic floors; Mau Dich No. 37, a rustic and retro restaurant that specializes in spring rolls, fried fish, and comforting rice dishes; Mien Luon Chan Cam, a beloved Old Quarter eatery that has been serving eel dishes for nearly four decades; Pho Bo Lam, an eatery famous for its rich, gelatinous beef noodle soup; and Uu Dam, a vegetarian restaurant that combines tradition with balanced nutrition.

The Michelin Guide 2025 also honors restaurants and eateries across Vietnam, including in the central coastal city of Danang and the commercial hub of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC).

In HCMC, CieL Dining, a newcomer, was awarded one Michelin star for its inventive cuisine and intimate experience. Meanwhile, Coco Dining was promoted to one star for its sophisticated take on Vietnamese dishes with a modern flair and fermentation.

Danang, in its second year of appearing in the Michelin Guide, continues to gain recognition with seven new additions, including four Bib Gourmand establishments.

Since its debut in Vietnam in 2023, the Michelin Guide has steadily expanded its coverage of the country's culinary diversity. From upscale modern dining to humble street food, Michelin inspectors embrace all facets of Vietnamese cuisine.

“This year, we are proud to witness a rise in the number of Starred restaurants, driven by a new generation of talented chefs,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “Street food stalls, family-run eateries, and long-standing local shops continue to preserve culinary traditions with authenticity and passion.”

The continued presence of the Michelin Guide in Vietnam supports culinary tourism and provides global exposure to local chefs, producers, and traditions. With a spotlight on sustainability, creativity, and excellence, Vietnam’s culinary journey beckons.
