Newly-built roads should contribute to urban economic development: Hanoi Party chief
Hanoi’s transportation planning until 2030, with a vision to 2045, aims to secure consistent development of all areas in Hanoi and neighboring cities and provinces.
The construction of new roads not only ensures smooth transportation movement, but also contribute to the city’s urban and economic development.

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue made the statement at a meeting with the municipal Department of Transportation on December 22.
“The Transportation Department is tasked with finalizing the transportation planning until 2030, with a vision to 2045, including all transportation modes, ensuring consistent development of all areas in Hanoi and neighboring cities/provinces,” Mr. Hue stressed.
Among immediate priorities, the Hanoi’s Party chief requested the Transportation Department to continue improving capacity of public transportation services and reduce traffic congestion.
“Hanoi should continue to promote multimodal transport with greater application of IT and sharing economy,” added Mr. Hue, expecting the transportation sector to shift towards eco-friendly transport vehicles.

According to Mr. Hue, the sector has been instrumental in transforming Hanoi’s urban and rural landscapes, noting that large projects have been completed or started construction in 2020.
Mr. Hue asked the municipal Department of Transportation to speed up the progress of ongoing projects, including the Le Van Luong underground passage, Vinh Tuy bridge phase 2, and taking over the Cat Linh – Ha Dong urban railway project from contractors.
Director of the Department Vu Van Vien said in 2020, the agency has submitted nine solutions to address traffic congestion and reduce traffic jams in 25 “black spots.”

“The department is committed to speeding up the construction process of urban railway projects and improve public transportation capacity, aiming to further reduce traffic congestion in the city,” stated Mr. Vien.
Regarding the Cat Linh – Ha Dong urban railway project, the department is in the process of integrating the railway route into the city’s existing mass transit network to ensure efficient operation of the project.
