Photo exhibition commemorates Vietnamese people's glorious victories

The exhibition highlights the importance of the Dien Bien Phu victory and Ho Chi Minh's campaign in Vietnam's revolutionary history.

Archived photos of Vietnam's wars are on display in the pedestrian area of Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi.

The exhibition, entitled Vietnam - Victories That Changed World History, opened on the afternoon of April 26 and was organized by the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board in collaboration with the B52 Victory Museum.

The event aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954-2024) and the 49th year of National Reunification (1975-2024).

The exhibition attracts a massive number of foreign visitors as it takes place in the heart of the capital. Photo: VNA

According to Tran Thi Thuy Lan, Deputy Director of the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board, the history of Vietnam in the 20th century is the history of great national defense wars, culminating in the victory of Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954), which ended the nine-year war against the French colonialists, and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign for the Liberation of the South and the Reunification of the Country (April 30, 1975), which brought to an end the almost 21-year war of resistance against the US.

The exhibition features photographs from two wars of resistance against foreign invaders, divided into three parts: The famous Dien Bien Phu Victory that Shook the World; the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, and the Historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign to Liberate the South and Reunify the Nation.

The victory at Dien Bien Phu dealt a decisive blow to the French invasion force and compelled France to sign the Geneva Accords to end the war and restore peace in Indochina. The victory of the Vietnamese army and people at Dien Bien Phu is one of the greatest and most glorious in the nation's history of fighting foreign invaders.

The historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, which completely liberated the South and reunified the country, was the pinnacle of the Vietnamese Revolutionary War.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Thi Khuyen Luong, Deputy Director of the B52 Victory Museum, the exhibition will bring new perspectives through vivid and realistic images, contribute to a better understanding of historical wars, spread the spirit of national pride among the public, and promote the patriotic traditions of the Vietnamese people.

The exhibition will run until May 31.
