Promoting the event “For Traffic Safety of the Capital City 2017”: Participation of newspapers are key

This is the statement of the Deputy Head of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee’s Commission Tran Xuan Ha when talking about the media event “For Traffic Safety of the Capital City 2017” held by the Economic & Urban Newspaper.

At the press release event of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee’s Commission on September 19, Vice Editor in Chief of the Economic & Urban Newspaper Lai Ba Ha has informed to reporters about the media event “For Traffic Safety of the Capital City 2017” partly held by the Economic & Urban Newspaper.

The event is jointly held by the Economic & Urban Newspaper with Hanoi Transport Department and the Hanoi Traffic Committee. With the aim of raising awareness of administrative agencies, transport enterprises and citizens when participating in traffic and building traffic culture in the capital city. As such, it will contribute to the public order and urban civilization, in turn reduces traffic congestion and traffic accident in Hanoi.

According to Mr. Lai Ba Ha, in addition to the writing contest as usual, this year, the organizing board will have multiple choices test with regard to the law and traffic culture in internet to attract participants such as students from middle schools and high schools in Hanoi. This will be the main part of the event, which contributes to spread the impact of the contest in society, and raise the awareness of citizens in following the traffic law, especially for young people. The contest in the internet will be initiated at the end of September. 

For the writing contest, based on the 2017 theme of the National Traffic Safety Committee “Building traffic culture among young generation”, with the objective of “People’s lives are priority”, the content of the contest will focus on implementing: raising awareness in following the traffic law, building safe traffic culture in citizens, especially young people. At the same time, it is necessary to continue promoting traffic safety, with an aim to reduce traffic accident from 5 – 10% in 3 criteria of the number of accident, fatalities and injured compared to 2016. Another important issue is to reduce traffic congestion in major cities, especially in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city; in which traffic congestion will not last for more than 30 minutes.

Requirements for the writing contest will focus on recommendations and solutions, giving ideas to improve mechanism policies; promoting and encouraging citizens to take part in the initiative “Improve road transport vehicle to reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution in Hanoi for period 2017 – 2020, with vision to 2030”. On the other hand, the contest will reflect the current situation of Hanoi’s traffic, and propose solutions to reduce congestion, accidents, ensure traffic safety in the city; timely commend and award organizations and individuals with contribution to public order, urban civilization and traffic safety.

In particular, the important theme will focus on how to educate students and young generations in building traffic culture. The contest encourage participants giving ideas and solutions which can apply to the current traffic situation in Hanoi – Mr. Lai Ba Ha stressed. At the same time, Mr. Ha suggested reporters and newspapers to promote and introduce the media event “For Traffic Safety of the Capital City 2017” to readers, as well as to actively participate in the contest with recommendations, solutions to increase traffic safety in Hanoi.

With regard to the award, there will be 01 special award of 20 million VND; 01 A award of 15 million VND; 2 B awards with 10 million VND each; 5 C awards with 5 million VND each; 20 consolation award, with 2 million VND each.

Speaking about the contest, the Deputy Head of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee’s Commission Tran Xuan Ha said this is an efficient activity of the Economic & Urban Newspaper, in turn contributes to raise awareness about traffic law for citizens, as well as solutions and recommendations in field of urban traffic for the city. In order for the event to be success, reporters and newspapers play an essential role in cooperating with the Economic & Urban Newspaper actively participate in the contest and promote the event to readers. It has a significant meaning in accompanying Hanoi to raise awareness of the capital’s citizens when participating in traffic – Mr. Tran Xuan Ha said.
