Red hues of Tet brighten Hanoi’s Hang Ma Street

Hang Ma Street is alive with seasonal color as shoppers gather ahead of the Vietnamese Tet holiday for popular decorations, such as lanterns, red envelopes and traditional couplets.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hang Ma Street is already glowing with the red hues of Tet, as vendors display the 2026 Lunar New Year decorations nearly two months ahead. Brightly colored items, dominated by red, give the central Hanoi street a festive and seasonal look.

Located in Hoan Kiem Ward, Hang Ma Street is a key shopping destination for Tet, with rows of red envelopes and hanging couplets mixed with the yellow of apricot blossoms, bringing an early touch of spring and attracting steady crowds of shoppers.

Traders busily restock shelves as Tet shopping demand increases.

Middle-aged shoppers tend to buy decorations for their homes, while younger people and children stop to take photos.

Traditional items such as lanterns, red envelopes and lucky hanging decorations remain the most popular.
