Hanoi stages dazzling drone performance on Lunar New Year's Eve

Hanoi welcomed the Lunar New Year 2024 with a Southeast Asian recordsetting drone light show.

The show, themed "One Day of the Capital - A Thousand Years of History", took place at the Van Cao T-junction in West Lake, Hanoi at 11.30pm on Lunar New Year's Eve.

With 2,024 drones used in the performance, it is by far the largest drone performance in Southeast Asia.

The artistic drone LED light show depicted various iconic Hanoi landmarks, including the Temple of Literature, Thang Long Bridge, Ngoc Son Temple and Huc Bridge over Hoan Kiem Lake.

Thousands of locals and tourists flocked to the area from as early as 10pm in anticipation of the unique performance.

Tran Anh Tuan, a resident of Van Cao Street, said he had never seen so many people on his normally quiet street. "We are very excited to see everyone coming here to celebrate the New Year together," he said.

After the drone performance, the crowd headed to Ngoc Khanh Lake to watch the vibrant fireworks display that followed.
