This year's calligraphy festival will uphold the Vietnamese tradition of study and respect for educators.
The 2023 Spring Calligraphy Festival opened at Hanoi's Temple of Literature on January 15, marking its comeback after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The festival pays tribute to the art and tradition of writing. Displaying a calligraphic work written on red paper during the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, the biggest traditional event for the Vietnamese, is a local tradition to pray for good things. Calligraphers write letters that convey the meaning of prosperity, longevity, and happiness.
The festival will last until January 29, the eighth day of the first lunar month.
The fourteen-day festival will see the participation of 50 calligraphers who are experts in Sino-Nom calligraphy (Chinese characters and Vietnamese ideographic script derived from Han Chinese). |
Calligraphy symbolizes the country's cultural beauty and attracts visitors annually. This year's calligraphy festival will uphold the Vietnamese tradition of study and respect for educators. |
