Supermarkets in Hanoi offer extensive holiday promotions

Big promotions at shopping centers offer an exciting experience for Hanoi residents who have not traveled outside the city during the upcoming holiday.

THE HANOI TIMES — Almost all supermarkets and shopping malls in Hanoi have launched promotions and discounts for National Reunification Day [April 30] and Labor Day [May 1].

The WinMart supermarket system is running the "Extremely Good Deals - Enjoy Your Vacation" promotional program until May 8, offering discounts of up to 50% on a wide range of fresh food, dry goods, household items, and children's toys.

"The more you buy, the steeper the discount," Pham Nhu Ba, a 42-year-old resident of Hanoi's Nam Tu Liem District, told The Hanoi Times.

In addition, WinMart is holding a fruit festival with attractive prices and discounts on 300 items, as well as buy-one-get-one-free and buy-two-get-one-free offers.

"According to our records, people's purchasing power for essential goods is on the rise in the days leading up to the April 30-May 1 holiday, and the number of customers shopping in the system is expected to increase by about 30% compared to normal days," said Tran Thi Dung, manager of WinMart supermarket on Ton That Thuyet Street in Nam Tu Liem District.

Leading retail chains such as BRGMart, Aeon, and GO! supermarket are also running discount programs. Shoppers who visited these supermarkets on the morning of April 28 witnessed a livelier shopping atmosphere with bustling activity.

"The company has been working with suppliers to ensure there are enough essentials for the holidays. Until May 15, shoppers at GO! supermarkets can enjoy discounts of up to 50% on fresh local and imported meat and fish, and up to 30% on fruits and vegetables," said Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Communications Director of Central Retail, GO!.

Co.opmart Hanoi supermarket system also launches great promotions for more than 1000 products to attract consumers during the holiday season, with the slogan "Opening a party to celebrate the holiday - Amazing price reduction" and "Fresh and delicious banquet - Excitingly welcome the holiday."

Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, Director of Co.opmart Hanoi Supermarket System, said: "This year is Co.opmart's 15th birthday. From now until May 14, we are offering discounts of up to 50% on many goods, especially fresh food, processed food, beverages, and cosmetics. It will be an attractive shopping experience for Hanoi residents during the holiday."

"Our company has been negotiating with suppliers on the prices of many products since the beginning of the first quarter of 2025 to offer discounts ranging from 20% to 50% for promotional programs," Dung told The Hanoi Times.

Aeon and Vincom malls have extended their opening hours until 11:00 PM during the holidays and have launched several promotional programs. Aeon offers 50% off on fast-moving consumer goods, buy 2 get 1 offers on laundry products, and various gifts. In addition, household and electrical products from popular brands such as Elmich, Lock&Lock, and Bluestone will be discounted by up to 50%.

Sports products of Adidas or Li-ning are rebated by 30%-50% on all products until May 4. Couple TX fashion offers a 50% discount, An Phuoc fashion with the program "Glorious spirit" of a 15% discount to attract many shoppers.

People can choose from a variety of deeply promoted products.

Nguyen Thi Kim Cuc from Dong Da District said that her family cannot afford to take a tour during the holiday. She chooses to go shopping with her family at the mall because there are many big sales programs during this time.

Shoppers have expressed satisfaction with the availability of fresh products and discounted items with extended shelf life. Dao Van, a resident of Thanh Xuan District, shared her positive experience, saying: "With a bill of over VND2 million (US$77), I was able to buy many essential goods with significant discounts."

Ensuring product quality and supplies

According to Vo Nguyen Phong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, market authorities have been monitoring the supply-demand situation at major supermarkets and inspecting key distributors in the city to ensure product quality and supply.

"Suppliers and producers are encouraged to use hi-tech applications to trace origin and verify information on food safety standards," said Phong.

He added that for retailers to offer discounts of up to 50%, many have spent months negotiating prices with suppliers and distributors, optimizing operational processes, and cutting unnecessary costs.

Supermarkets have responded to the increased demand for essential goods by working closely with suppliers to increase inventory and maintain reasonable prices.

"They have also intensified quality checks on incoming goods and hired more staff to ensure excellent service. Supermarket shelves are constantly being restocked, especially with fresh food," the director said.

Watches and cosmetics are also applied with promotion programs up to 50% or buy 1 get 1 free.
