Tea event strengthens Vietnam–China cultural ties

The event highlights the bond between the two nations, which share a long history, proximity, and ideals.

THE HANOI TIMES — The "World Harmonious Tea" event aims to strengthen the friendship and cultural ties between the Vietnamese provinces and China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The cultural and tourism exchange, held in Hanoi on May 21 in anticipation of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the China-Vietnam Humanistic Exchange Year, is said to be a practical step in realizing the high-level agreements between the two Parties and States.

Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador He Wei emphasized the bond between the two countries, saying that China and Vietnam are "close neighbors, sharing mountains and rivers; intimate friends; trusted partners; and comrades with similar ideals and a shared future."

Conference delegates enjoy tea.

Tea is a mainstay of culture in both countries and serves as a powerful symbol of socializing. While China is recognized as the cradle of tea culture, Vietnam also has a rich, ancient tradition of tea deeply woven into its societal fabric. From everyday communal sips of tra da (iced tea), found on every street corner, tea plays a pivotal role in Vietnamese life. It is an integral part of welcoming guests, celebrating special occasions, and fostering community bonds. This shared passion provides a solid foundation for future cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries.

Besides tea, the program promoted Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, for its jasmine tea culture. It also highlighted the "red tourist routes" that trace the footsteps of President Ho Chi Minh in the neighboring country. The tour aims to highlight the historical depth of the friendship between Vietnam and China.

Nguyen Hoang Anh, Chairman of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association, expressed hope that both sides would seize this opportunity to promote friendly cooperation by drawing inspiration from tea culture. The association pledged to continue supporting humanistic exchange activities to strengthen the bond between the Vietnamese and Chinese people.
