Tens of thousands gather for “Hanoi – From the Historic Autumn of 1945”
The event is a vibrant artistic celebration to honor historic milestones while inspiring pride, resilience, and aspirations for Hanoi’s future.
THE HANOI TIMES — Tens of thousands of people flocked to August Revolution Square on the evening of August 15 to enjoy the special art program “Hanoi - From the Historic Autumn of 1945”, creating an unprecedented scene at the heart of the capital.
Crowds stretched beyond the square, with lines of spectators reaching as far as the Trang Tien-Ngo Quyen intersection.
The event is part of a series of cultural and art programs held in Hanoi, making the city the host for signature events to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and Vietnam’s National Day on September 2.

Opening the event, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh recalled the historic rally of August 19, 1945, when revolutionary fervor ignited at this very square, ushering in independence and freedom for Vietnam.
He stressed that the program not only pays tribute to the nation’s glorious past but also carries a message of resilience, aspiration for growth, and determination to build a green, smart, and modern capital.

Divided into three chapters and six acts, the performance traced eight decades of history. It journeyed from the fervor of the revolutionary autumn, through the Ho Chi Minh era and the “Dien Bien Phu in the Air” victory, to the image of an elegant, forward-looking Hanoi in the era of global integration.

The program combined classical, traditional, and international art forms with modern stage technology. It featured 3D mapping, artistic fireworks, and other effects to create a “journey of light through time” from the nation’s historic milestones to the present day.

The musical journey opened with “The Internationale” and a medley of iconic revolutionary songs. It concluded with the stirring national anthem Tien Quan Ca “Marching Song”, brought to life by nearly 1,000 artists and performers, including many celebrated names.

People’s Artist Tan Minh directed the program, joined by music director Duong Cam, conductor Dong Quang Vinh, and choreographer Tuyet Minh. The event was performed by renowned artists such as Hoang Anh Tu, Xuan Hinh, Dang Duong, Hoang Hai, Van Mai Huong, Lam Bao Ngoc, Oplus, Dong Hung, Khanh Linh, and the Thang Long Song and Dance Theatre.
Broadcast live nationwide, the event provided audiences with a rich and moving artistic experience. It rekindled national pride, honored past sacrifices, and inspired the youth to carry forward Vietnam’s heroic traditions.
