The 5th meeting of Hanoi Vietnam – Russia Friendship Association

On August 26 in Hanoi, Hanoi Vietnam – Russia Friendship Association has held the 5th meeting for the period 2017-2022 chaired by the Chairwoman of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) Nguyen Lan Huong.

At the meeting, representatives were briefed on the performance report of the Hanoi Vietnam – Russia Friendship Association session IV for the period of 2012-2017 and the direction for session V for the period of 2017-2022. As such, during the previous session, the Association has organized practical and diversified activities, in turn contributed to the friendship between Hanoi and Moscow in particular, as well as Vietnam and Russia in general.

The Association also promoted to members on the policies of Hanoi and its own, so that people understand more about the efficiency of people’s diplomacy and take part in activities of the Association and the HUFO. Moreover, the Steering committee of the Association has actively participated in the annual activities of HUFO, such as: Hanoimoi Run Tournament; Run for children; Rooting for the competition “Hanoi – the city of peace”; Listening to discussion about the international news and east sea;

At the same time, the Association has frequent meeting with the Russia Embassy, the Russia Science & Culture center, Russian enterprises in Hanoi, as well as to solidify the cooperation and friendship with Russia – Vietnam Friendship Association. Besides, the Association also pays great attention to charity and social activities. In the coming time, the Association will focus on improving cooperation with partners in Moscow and other cities in Russia, gaining the support from Vietnamese people residing in Russia, with a view for the socio-economic development of Hanoi and Vietnam. On the other hand, promotion activities to advertise the image and achievements of Hanoi and Vietnam during the process of global integration is also one of the priority. On the occasion of national day and festival in Vietnam and Russia, the Association will hold many events to promote the friendship between two countries. It is aimed to increase the knowledge and cooperation between citizens of two countries, in particular, Vietnamese enterprises are encouraged to update and review economic model in Russia to look for opportunities for cooperation and investment.

Russian ambassador to Vietnam K.V.Vnukov said the relationship between the two countries has been solidified and developed in previous decades. Especially, this year has a significant meaning when two countries will hold big events with the participation of the Russian and Vietnamese Presidents, i.e. the official visit of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang to Russia at the end of June, and in the coming November, the Russian President Vladimir Putin will come to Vietnam to participate in the APEC summit. The 20th annual meeting of the Vietnam – Russia Inter-Governmental Committee on Economic, Commercial, Scientific and Technological Cooperation in the early of September at Ho Chi Minh city is another important event.

Mr. Vnukov said it is important that the cooperation between two countries is not limited by political or economical aspects. He is convinced that the people’s diplomacy will play an essential role in fostering the cooperation and development between people of both countries, while the Vietnam – Russia Friendship Association will hold major responsibilities. Activities from association of two sides have significantly contributed to the preserve and develop traditional values, in turn promoted information on the modern Russia in Vietnam and the other way around. Mr. Vnukov said the Russia embassy is willing to support the Association in the future with more ideas and recommendations to improve the communication between two countries.

On behalf of the HUFO, Dr. Can Viet Anh highly regarded the achievements of Vietnam – Russia Friendship Association in previous years. Mr. Viet Anh hoped the Association will continue improving its influence in people’s diplomacy with the spirit of proactive, flexible, creative and effective. 

At the meeting, representatives have voted for the new Steering committee for session V in the period of 2017-2022 with 30 members, while the Chairman of Long Bien District People’s Council Mr. Do Manh Hai becomes the Chairman.
