The shining aura of thousand-year-old Hanoi

Over a thousand years ago, in the fall of 1010, King Ly Thai To issued a royal decree called 'Edict on the Transfer of Capital' to move the imperial capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La.

Since then, Thang Long (Ascending Dragon), the old name of Hanoi has become a noble and majestic symbol of the Vietnamese nation. This "sacred land with extraordinary people" is considered a symbol of the nation's thousand years of civilization.

From such important milestone, the ‘aura of Thang Long’ had been built up and passed down from generations to generations during the history of the capital.

Through more than a thousand years since its inception, Thang Long-Hanoi had faced successive wars and invaders, gaining many glorious victories and miraculous achievements. It is the place where the glorious historical pages of the nation are written, quintessence converges and patriotism arose. Hanoi’s people love peace, solidarity and always have aspirations to strive for a better future.

Thang Long-Hanoi continues to advance on its path of innovation and international integration. The capital has been imprinted with the tradition of 'Civilization - Hero - Peace - Friendship'. Hanoi is today recognized and honored by the world with many titles such as 'Capital of conscience and human dignity', 'City for Peace' and 'Creative City' among other noble titles.

The ‘Thang Long aura,’ whose radiation was made possible by Vietnamese ancestors, has now become an asset that helps Hanoi gain confidence and desire to move forward into the future.

The ancient capital of Thang Long citadel or Hanoi Capital today still retains its precious heritages. Apart from the hustle and bustle Hanoi’s Old Quarter area with its unique architecture and life style, urbanization is aggressively expanding.

Present-day Hanoi is not just a political and cultural center, it has become a key economic center, attracting many of the major international corporations and investors. The capital now leads the entire country in the process of integration and globalization. The city's annual growth rate is 1.5 times higher than the national average. Although it occupies only 1% of the land area and 8.5% of the population, Hanoi still contributes more than 16% of GDP, 18.5% of budget revenue, 20% of domestic revenue, and 8 , 6% of the total turnover of exports - imports of the country.

In terms of friendly international exchange and cooperation, Hanoi is friends with more than 100 cities and capitals; it also has economic and commercial relations with almost 200 countries and territories.

Not only paying attention to economic development, Hanoi still persists in the direction of building a green and harmonious city with sustainable development. A series of buildings, centers, new urban areas emerged here and there. A number of roads, bridges and civil constructions have been built, improved and expanded which not only create a convenient connection within the city, but also enhancing the links between Hanoi and other provinces and cities.

From the historic milestone of 1010 years anniversary, Hanoi still retains its cultural beauty, peaceful and safe environment during the development process. Hanoi is continuing to improve its policies to attract foreign investments and external talents to fulfill its tasks of building up a creative and developed city. At the same time, the town aims at becoming an intelligent governmental urban and smart city; gradually improving the people’s living quality, both materially and spiritually.

Despite challenges ahead, the ever-shining ‘aura of Thang Long’- Hanoi will overcome any obstacle to reach a new height and become a city of sustainable development.
