"The Voice of Hanoi 2024" now underway to discover talented young singers

This year's competition aims to celebrate cultural and artistic values while driving forward the capital's cultural industry.

"The Voice of Hanoi 2024" singing competition is now underway under the theme “Hanoi – A Passionate Heart”, calling on all young talents to showcase their vocal skills.

The contest is part of a series of cultural and artistic events organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2024)  and the 1,014th anniversary of the establishment of Thang Long-Hanoi as the capital.

Beyond an artistic playground, the competition is an opportunity for contestants and Hanoians to review the city's heroic history and to instill love and pride for the motherland in everyone's hearts, said Do Dinh Hong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports.

"The competition will celebrate the elegant lifestyle of the Hanoi people, and showcase the love and pride in the cultural and artistic traditions that the capital has preserved over thousands of years of history," he added.

He expressed his expectation that "The Voice of Hanoi 2024" contest will spot young voices and contribute to the country's cultural and artistic scene.

The competition is open to contestants aged 16-35 who currently live in Hanoi, and those who have won high prizes in vocal competitions across the country singing about the capital.

There will be a preliminary round (from November 12-16), a semi-final round (from November 19-21) and a final round to select 12 outstanding singers to compete in the first, second and third prize categories, People's Artist Quoc Hung, Deputy Director in charge of the Vietnam National Academy of Music and jury representative, said.

First, second, and third prizes will be awarded in three music genres - chamber music, folk music, and pop music - as well as the best performance about Hanoi and the most popular contestant, he said.

Finalists will receive recommendations and opportunities to participate in Youth Union activities and city programs, while young winners will receive scholarships that are expected to encourage them to pursue their passion, Hung added.

Held since 1994, "The Voice of Hanoi" was one of the first singing competitions in Vietnam and has made a significant impact on the music scene, promoting outstanding singers.

After many years of organization, the competition not only stops at finding excellent singers, but also becomes a cradle to nurture and develop great talents for Vietnamese music.

Vietnam's leading singers including People's Artist Tan Minh, Meritorious Artist Dang Duong, Meritorious Artist Viet Hoan, divas Hong Nhung and My Linh, and singer Khanh Linh rose to fame after winning this competition.

Over the 30 years since it was first held, the competition has made a significant mark on the music scene and has discovered many outstanding singers, said Nguyen Kim Khiem, General Director of the Hanoi Radio and Television Broadcasting.

The competition is one of the most prestigious cultural and artistic events that leave a deep impression on the hearts of music lovers in the capital, he said.

This year's competition aims to honor cultural and artistic values while promoting the capital's cultural industry, Khiem said.

It provides a platform for artists to showcase their deep love for Hanoi, and contributes significantly to the city's cultural tapestry, he added.
