Thousands of students sit high school entrance exams in Hanoi amid pandemic

This is the second year Hanoi has held the exams amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than 93,000 students in Hanoi took the 10th grade high school entrance exams for the 2021-2022 academic year on June 10 under strict measures against the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the municipal Department of Education and Training, this is the second year Hanoi has held the exams amid the Covid-19 pandemic, therefore, the city has experienced in ensuring safety for the tests.

The department has prepared nearly 4,000 exam rooms located across 184 venues while mobilizing some 14,500 officials, teachers, and employees to supervise the exams.

Students take tests on June 12 and 13 with two subjects each morning so as for parents to have time to pick up their children.

Students who are Covid-19 patients and made close contact with coronavirus patients (F0 and F1) in Hanoi will be admitted to public schools that they applied for without taking the entrance exams so as to ensure safety amid the pandemic.

Prior to the exams, the department has coordinated with local authorities to organize exam rehearsals before June 8.

The municipal People's Committee asked those in charge of all 184 exam sites to ensure the availability of sanitizer, provide guidance for students and stay in touch with parents on exam days as well as getting students’ medical declaration before 5:00 pm on June 11.

At a meeting with the Standing Committee of the municipal Party Committee on June 3, Hanoi Party chief Dinh Tien Dung requested that, at all costs, safety must be ensured for all students during the exam.

Dung said that the examination is taking place in an unprecedented context due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, so the organizers have to figure out different scenarios, even the most extreme ones.

Dung requested the immediate reactivation of the 15 working groups to direct and inspect the Covid-19 pandemic prevention during the exam.

The city's Party committee and local officials, especially leaders, must be involved, maintaining a sense of responsibility to successfully conduct the exam in accordance with the motto “All for the future of our children”, Dung stressed.

Speaking at an online conference on June 10, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh said the pandemic situation is largely under control and the city’s officials are confident in the safety of the students taking the exams.
