Vibrant festival honors ancient Thang Long Citadel protector

The Quan Thanh Temple Festival aims to promote the value of local cultural heritage among locals and visitors to Hanoi.

The festival was held on April 22 in Hanoi, attracting a large number of visitors.

Quan Thanh Temple, formerly known as Tran Vu Temple, was built during the reign of King Ly Thai To (1010-1028). The temple worships Huyen Thien Tran Vu, one of the four sacred deities of Taoism.

The temple is one of the "Thang Long Tu Tran" or the four guardian temples of Thang Long, built at the four cardinal points to protect the ancient Thang Long Citadel from evil spirits.

The Quan Thanh Temple Festival is held twice a year, on the third day of the third Lunar month; and on the ninth day of the ninth Lunar month in gratitude to Huyen Thien Tran Vu. The genie is believed to help the Hung Kings expel invaders and help the people fight against evil spirits and natural disasters.
