Vietnam Airlines to operate Hanoi - Jakarta direct route later this month

The direct service between Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport and Jakarta’s Soekarno‑Hatta International signals a major step forward in regional travel.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam Airlines will officially operate new Hanoi - Jakarta direct air route from November 22 with a view to bolstering tourism between the two countries.

The flight will become the second direct route between Vietnam and Indonesia inaugurated by Vietnam Airlines this year, following the Ho Chi Minh City - Denpasar service in June.

According to Tran Tuan Nghia, Chief Representative of Vietnam Airlines in Indonesia, the move demonstrates the national flag carrier’s long-term commitment to expanding its network in the Indonesian market.

”With daily operations and convenient overnight flight times, passengers travelling on Hanoi - Jakarta direct route will be able to make full use of daytime hours for work, sightseeing or domestic travel, especially beneficial for busy businessmen and tourists," said Nghia.

The new route will meet the growing travel demand of people in both Vietnam and Indonesia, while enhancing Vietnam Airlines’ competitiveness in the ASEAN aviation market along with Northeast Asia.

The Vietnam Airlines will utilize the new Airbus A321, one of the mixed Airbus family that serves short-haul international routes.

The new direct route will have a frequency of five flights a week, and will likely adjust upon demand.

Ta Van Thong, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia, said that the opening of this new route marks the expansion of air connectivity between Vietnam and Indonesia and represents a new milestone in their partnership.

"The move reflects the growing mutual trust, cooperation and commitment between the longstanding close friends, which are both dynamic members of ASEAN," said the ambassador.

Thong stressed that the direct Hanoi - Jakarta service serves as a bridge linking the peoples of the two countries, facilitating business cooperation and tapping into Indonesia’s promising market.
