Korea Herald, a South Korea newspaper, has pointed out Vietnam is among the most popular destinations in Southeast Asia for South Korean planning on overseas trips in December.
Among Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam is the top destination with 33.7% of all reservations for overseas travel in the coming month, thanks to the popularity of its famous resorts in Da Nang and other cities. Thailand and the Philippines came next.
The survey is based on data from Hana Tour, the largest travel agent in South Korea. According to the survey, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations accounted for slightly over 54% of the reservations.
The portion is up sharply from 34.1% for December last year. Japan followed with 12.8%, trailed by 12.8% for China. Last December, Japan claimed the top spot with 44.8%.
Earlier, Da Nang has been named among the world’s 10 destinations favored by South Korean families and couples, according to a list released by Ticket Monster Inc, a tour operator.
Da Nang’s ranking came after Japan’s Osaka on the list of Ticket Monster Inc. Da Nang has become a popular destination for tourists from South Korea. South Korean holidaymakers totaled over 500,000, which accounted for the largest portion of the international arrivals in the city in the first five months of 2018, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.
Da Nang city has many tourist attractions and lots of gorgeous beaches stretching for miles. In addition, travel is made easier owing to many air services connecting South Korean cities with the central coastal city, according to Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Director of Omega Tours.
“South Korean travel agencies and air carriers have focused on operating, promoting to Da Nang,” said Nguyen Ngoc Anh.
In recent years, South Korea has continually been one of the three biggest sources of foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam, surpassing 2.5 million in the first nine months of 2018, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
Meanwhile, Vietnam also continually been one of ten biggest sources of foreign visitors to South Korea, reaching over 350,000 in 2017.
