Vietnam and the US celebrate diplomatic tie through music and youth culture

The project marks the 30-year anniversary of US-Vietnam relations while offering a fresh and youth-centered perspective on a milestone that has shaped both countries.

THE HANOI TIMES — In a creative celebration of three decades of diplomatic ties, the US Mission to Vietnam, in collaboration with renowned Vietnamese rapper Suboi, has released a new music video titled “Never Before.”

The music video reflects three decades of cooperation, outlining key milestones and highlighting the next generation as the living continuation of today’s partnership. It turns a traditionally formal diplomatic commemoration into a vibrant, modern expression of cultural exchange that celebrates youthful imagination, ambition and a global outlook.

Suboi, widely known as Vietnam’s “Queen of Hip-Hop,” brings her signature style to the project. Her blend of traditional Vietnamese elements with contemporary urban music gives “Never Before” a rhythm that connects with young audiences while honoring cultural roots.

The video weaves rap with subtle traditional sounds, creating an experience that feels both modern and deeply grounded in heritage.

Ambassador Marc Knapper emphasized the value of this artistic approach, noting that as the two countries mark 30 years of relations, creativity offers a powerful bridge to young people.

He said Suboi’s contribution brings the story of the partnership to life in a contemporary form and reaffirms the essential role youth will play in shaping the shared future.

Suboi said she was honored to join the celebration and hoped the video would inspire young Vietnamese to recognize the progress of the partnership and look ahead with confidence, embracing the opportunities that cooperation can bring.

Through music and visual storytelling, “Never Before” highlights how far the United States and Vietnam have advanced over the past three decades while inviting young people to imagine the future of this enduring relationship.

By presenting the anniversary as an ongoing journey driven by creativity, innovation and cultural exchange, the video turns a diplomatic milestone into a celebration of human connection and shared aspirations.
