Vietnam-China rail line welcomes 4,000 passengers in first two months

The train, which runs from Hanoi’s Gia Lam Station to Nanning in China’s Guangxi Province, now takes only 11 hours, down from 14, thanks to simplified immigration procedures.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s international passenger train to China, which resumed operations in late May after a five-year Covid-19 interruption, had carried nearly 4,000 passengers by late July, according to the Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR).

Operating every Tuesday and Friday, the rail route extends to some Chinese cities like Guilin North, Hengyang, Changsha, Zhengzhou, and Beijing West along China’s South-North rail artery.

The VNR has expanded ticket sales for the Gia Lam-Nanning route to all national stations. Passengers with valid visas and passports can buy tickets using digital images, backed by a written guarantee, while children aged 4-12 get a 50% fare cut.

The renewed railway service complements the existing direct flights and bus routes that connect major tourist destinations: Nanning-Pingxiang-Hanoi and Nanning-Dongxing-Halong Bay.

The resumption of this rail connection offers tourists an efficient travel option with spectacular scenery, fostering greater people-to-people ties and cultural understanding.

Since July 16, VNR has been selling international Vietnam–China train tickets at all railway stations nationwide, expanding from the previous four stations: Hanoi, Gia Lam, Bac Giang, and Dong Dang.
