Vietnam strengthens ties with Arab states
Vietnam commits to enhancing ties with the Arab League as part of its broader diplomatic outreach.
THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnamese President Luong Cuong affirmed the country's commitment to strengthening political and economic ties with the Arab League during a policy speech at its headquarter in Cairo on August 4.
This is also the first time a top Vietnamese leader has delivered an address to the League.
Speaking on the theme “Opening a new chapter in Vietnam–Arab friendship and cooperation”, President Cuong highlighted Vietnam’s appreciation for the Arab League’s role in promoting peace, stability, and development across Asia and Africa.

Cuong reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to deepening the relationship built on long-standing solidarity and mutual respect with the League amid global security and climate challenges that impact developing nations, including Vietnam and Arab states.
The president called for closer collaboration in multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, and urged the implementation of existing agreements.
He also expressed Vietnam’s readiness to act as a bridge between the League's member states and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Vietnam and the Arab League established a formal cooperation mechanism in July 2023 between Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the League’s Secretariat, paving the way for more structured engagement.
President Cuong’s visit signals Vietnam’s growing diplomatic outreach to the Arab states, with a shared vision for peace, partnership, and sustainable development.
The meeting took place during his state visit to Egypt on August 3–6 at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
