Vietnam earns US$92 billion from ICT revenue in H1

The sector is expected to generate US$169.3 billion in revenue by 2025, up 11.4% from 2024.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector generated over VND2.4 quadrillion (US$91.8 billion) in revenue during the first half of the year, up 16% on year, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The sector contributed roughly VND537.8 trillion (US$20.6 billion) to the gross domestic product (GDP), up 15% year-on-year.

Of the total revenue, the digital technology industry made profits worth VND158.3 trillion (US$6 billion), up nearly 20%, while contributions to the state budget totaled over VND30.7 trillion (US$1.2 billion), up 23%.

Vietnam is home to over 75,000 digital technology enterprises that employ nearly 1.7 million people, marking a 4% year-on-year increase.

In the telecommunications industry, service revenues reached VND70.4 trillion ($2.7 billion), representing a 1.2% increase.

Meanwhile, the postal industry recorded service profits of VN950 billion ($36.3 million), up 20%. Taxes collected from postal services were estimated at VND2.95 trillion ($112.8 million), a 14.3% increase.

The number of postal businesses increased by 1% to 745, and the total amount of postal items handled reached 1.8 billion, which is 16% more than during the same period last year.

The country is home to 41 operational data centers.
