Films on Vietnamese history to hit screens at Tet

Three animated films, each 30 minutes long, about Vietnamese mythological and historical events, will be screened during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, the Vietnam Animation Studio has announced. The films are entitled 'King Dinh Tien Hoang', 'The Gong of Nua Mountain' and 'The Hero of Tan Vien Mountain'.

The films are well made and suitable for young people and children, according to the film industry authorities.

Map of Vietnam made from 54 pots of Tet cake

A map of Vietnam was made from 54 banh tet (tet cake, southern version of Chung cake) on 28 January in Tan An Commune, Ngoc Hien District, the southernmost province of Ca Mau, representing the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.

The activity was part of a Tet celebration event held for local children in Tan An Commune on the same day. Around 1,000 gifts were distributed to poor households and children at the event to encourage them to overcome difficulties.

Vietnam's performance against Japan voted one of the best matches

According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Vietnam's clash with Japan was one of the best six group matches at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Vietnam lost 4-2 to Japan on January 14, making it one of the two highest-scoring matches.

The match drew media attention as Vietnam head coach Philippe Troussier faced his former team for the first time since they parted ways after the 2002 World Cup. Vietnam captured the attention of the international media after putting on a good show against the title contenders.

Nguyen Minh Anh named best golfer of the year

Golfer Nguyen Minh Anh was named the best male player of the year at the Vietnam Golf Awards 2023, held at the Hanoi Opera House on January 28. Minh Anh was the first Vietnamese male golfer to win the Asia Faldo Series in 2023.

Young golfer Le Khanh Hung was honored as the best young player for winning the gold medal for Vietnam at the SEA Games 32 in Cambodia. The Hanoi Golf Association was named the best organization of the year.

Number of patent applications in Vietnam surges in 2023

According to the National Office of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology), the number of patent applications in Vietnam increased by 10.6% in 2023. Industrial design applications also saw a year-on-year jump of 11.8%.

The office received more than 156,000 applications for industrial property rights last year, an upturn of 11% from the previous year. Of these, the Office processed 125,778 applications, including 74,130 industrial property applications.

Tet Festival in Nha Trang in early February

From 1 to 19 February, the Vietnamese Tet Festival will be held at Phu Dong Park in Nha Trang City in the southern province of Khanh Hoa. The event is organized by the Khanh Hoa Culinary Culture Association in cooperation with the Nha Trang City People's Committee.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience and taste regional cuisines at 106 food stalls and witness performances by famous artisans showcasing traditional Tet dishes from the three regions of Vietnam.

Billion-US$ billionaires to attend Binh Dinh Meeting Gala

The central coastal province of Binh Dinh is expected to attract US$ billionaires at the end of March when it hosts the UIM F1H2O World Championship (the world's leading international series of single-seat inshore powerboat races) and the UIM-ABP AQUABIKE World Championship Powerboat Sport Competition (Grand Prix of Binh Dinh 2024) from 22 to 31 March.

This event will help establish the province as a world-class tourist destination. The race will also be accompanied by the 1st Binh Dinh 2024 International Cuisine Festival, an international music festival and a beach fashion festival.

China leads new investment projects in Vietnam

In January, China was the leading investor in terms of the number of   foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam, accounting for nearly 19% of the total, according to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

As of January 20, total FDI into Vietnam reached over US$2.3 billion, up 40.2% year-on-year. South Korea led in capital adjustment (26.7%) and capital contribution through share purchase (25.3%).
