Vietnam-Singapore cooperation center opens

The newly-upgraded center aims to organize broader technical assistance projects related to urban planning, educational services, consulting and projects supporting, charity and humanitarian assistance.

The Vietnam-Singapore Cooperation Center (VSCC) was opened in Hanoi on March 23 with the witness of Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Catherine Wong said that the forerunner of the VSCC was the Vietnam-Singapore Training Center, set up in 2002.

Up to now, more than 10,000 Vietnamese officials have taken part in courses offered at the center with various topics such as language, communication skills, economic development, trade and tourism, public administration, administration and law, information technology and communication, the ambassador added.

She stressed that in the context of Vietnam's rapid growth and development, the Vietnam-Singapore Training Center has been upgraded and changed its name to VSCC to demonstrate Singapore's long-term commitment in addressing regional countries’ development needs and narrowing the development gap in the region.

This newly-upgraded center aims to organize broader technical assistance projects including urban planning, educational services, consulting and projects supporting, charity and humanitarian assistance, Catherine Wong noted.

She expressed her hope that the center will bring a comprehensive development support partnership with many prestigious public and private agencies and organizations such as Singapore’s Department of Business Development, Singapore International Fund, Singapore Red Cross, Temasek Fund and Lien AID, among others.

Vietnam and Singapore upgraded bilateral ties to strategic partnership in 2013. Singapore is the third largest foreign investor in Vietnam.

Singaporean businesses are keen to continue investing in new fields of cooperation such as energy, urban solutions and digital economy. One factor that plays a key role in the two countries’ bilateral relationship is a long-term partnership in the field of human resource development.
