The new mission of the ICT industry will be placing Vietnam in the list of world major telecommunications equipment manufacturers in the next five to ten years, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized and believed the 5G technology coupled with "Make in Vietnam" movement would be an opportunity for the country’s desire of developing information technology industry to come true.

With “Make in Vietnam”, the national ICT industry aims for annual revenue growth 2.5 to 3 times higher than the overall economic growth in the 2021-25 period, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung told the conference which took stock of Vietnam ICT in 2020 and discussing tasks and orientations for 2021 on January 12 in Hanoi.
The ICT sector gained bright results in the past five years (2016-20) and 2021 is the first year of the next five-year plan in which the sector will shoulder the responsibility of realizing the goal of making Vietnam an upper-middle-income country in 2023.
As telecommunication is the infrastructure for the development of the digital economy, digital infrastructure will be built first for Vietnam to keep up with other countries in the world in applying new technology. By 2025, the national telecommunications sector will rank in the top 50 countries in the world.
According to the plan, there will be 0.7 digital technology enterprises for every 1,000 people nationwide by 2021 and one business per 1,000 people by 2025.
Minister Hung also said this year, Vietnam will master 100% of the ecosystem of cybersecurity products and services. Developing a contingent of highly qualified experts will contribute to placing Vietnam in the top 30 countries for global cybersecurity in 2025.
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam urged ICT companies to participate in programs initiated by the Ministry of Information and Communications that create open platforms for companies to jointly develop applications that respond to the practical needs of the local population.
"This will help numerous companies to make fast and strong leaps together in the sector," he said.
