World Robot Olympiad kicks off in Vietnam

The top teams from the ROBOTACON WRO tournament in Vietnam will compete in the international competition in Panama in November.

ROBOTACON - World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2023 was officially launched on April 14th at Phenikaa University, Hanoi.

The ROBOTACON - WRO 2023 competition with the theme "Connecting the World" is jointly organized by the Danish Embassy and Viet Tinh Anh Joint Stock Company - LEGO Education.

This year's contestants will be divided into groups and assigned goals pertaining to a number of topics of current interest both in Vietnam and abroad, such as marine life preservation, underwater infrastructure, and port automation.

ROBOTACON - WRO is one of the largest international robotics competitions for kids from many nations, ages 6 to 19. Through robotics competitions and challenges, they will showcase their critical thinking and problem-solving skills and develop new projects.

At the opening ceremony, Danish Ambassador Nicolai Prytz expressed the Danish Embassy's pride in helping to bring ROBOTACON - WRO 2023, the largest and most prestigious competition dedicated to science, technology and education, in Vietnam.

The winning teams of the ROBOCON - WRO tournament in Vietnam will participate in the international competition to be held in Panama in November this year.

The ROBOTACON - WRO competition in Vietnam will have two qualifying rounds in Ho Chi Minh City with an expected 300 teams from the south and in Hai Phong with an expected 200 teams from the north. The final round will be held in Hanoi in August 2023.

"I believe this will be an amazing playground for young Vietnamese to learn necessary skills for the 21st century, such as critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and mastering technology. The competition also provides an opportunity for students to innovate and discover, helping to build a generation ready to face and solve the problems and challenges of the future," said Nicolai Prytz.

Denmark and Vietnam have been cooperating closely in the education sector since 2005, when a 10-year program was launched to support Vietnam in introducing a new learner-centered arts education and developing a new arts curriculum for primary schools.

Under the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement signed between the two countries in September 2013, education continues to be one of the priority areas for cooperation.
