The plant takes water from the river for purifying instead of underground water, which has been depleted due to excessive exploitation.

Covering a total area of 65 hectares, the project has the first phase designed with 300,000 cu.m/day (costing VND5 trillion (US$215.2 million)), to be expanded to 600,000 cu.m/day by 2023, 900,000 cu.m/day by 2030, and 1.2 million cu.m/day after 2030.

After the inauguration, the plant will continue providing drinkable water in Hanoi downtown and other rural districts of Ung Hoa, Thanh Oai, and part of the neighboring provinces of Hung Yen and Bac Ninh.

Attending the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung stressed that the plant is considered an outstanding project
under the public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism.

Indeed, the plant, which is equipped with advanced technologies, was
built in a record time to become Hanoi’s biggest capacity water facility so far.

The city pledged to create favorable conditions for domestic and foreign investors to raise the capacity of the plant to 600,000 cubic meters per day by October 2023, Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung said.
