Be smart in the fight against counterfeit goods

When consumers say no to fake and counterfeit goods, it is an effective shield to protect the local market.

THE HANOI TIMES — Preventing counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods requires not only active authorities but also “smart” consumers, Duong Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Market Management Department, said at the “Say No to Counterfeit and Poor-Quality Goods” discussion hosted by the Kinh te & Do thi (Economic and Urban) Newspaper on July 25.

Consumers need to know how to check the origin, source and quality of the product before they decide to buy the product.

"In the digital age, online shopping brings many conveniences but has many potential risks. Therefore, consumers need to be wary of fake websites, not share personal information with unreliable sources and prioritize shopping on platforms with clear customer protection policies," said Hung.

He noted that management agencies and businesses can also promote communication, connect supply and demand to help consumers identify genuine and fake goods.

For his part, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, Editor-in-Chief of Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper, said: "In the fight against counterfeit, fake and poor-quality goods, we not only need a strong legal system and professional authorities, but the consensus and responsibility of the whole community, especially the role of consumers and the press."

When consumers have enough information, enough skills to identify and bravely say no to fake and counterfeit goods, it is an effective "shield" to protect the local market.

“In the digital age, communication and media are vital in warning and guiding public opinion. With its social responsibility, Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper pledges to support management agencies, businesses, and people in fighting fake goods; spread positive information, promote responsible consumption, and honor honest, creative businesses that prioritize quality,” Loi emphasized.
