Bright future for Vietnam-Azerbaijan relations

Today, Vietnam is one of the key partners of Azerbaijan in Southeast Asia.

Addressing a recent conference titled “Diplomacy of Azerbaijan and Vietnam: parallels, development, role in state building” in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramiz Hasanov remarked many prioritized policies of Azerbaijan and his hope to enhance relations between his country with Vietnam.
Azerbaijan’s foreign policy
Deputy Minister Ramiz Hasanov said that Azerbaijan’s foreign policy is being conducted on a balanced and multipolar fundamental basis. Azerbaijan's leaders have repeatedly noted that the country has an independent and transparent foreign policy strategy.
At the same time, in its foreign policy, Azerbaijan takes as a basis the norms and principles of international law and the UN Charter, and is guided by the principles of equal rights, non-interference in internal affairs, mutually beneficial cooperation and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan actively supports the efforts of the international community on a bilateral and multilateral basis aiming at enhancing world security and overcoming conflicts that serve as a fertile ground for terrorism, radicalism and extremism. Azerbaijan also contributes to the strengthening of existing international mechanisms and to increasing their effectiveness.
In recent times, the energy and transport projects initiated and implemented by Azerbaijan within the framework of cooperation with regional and international partners have contributed to regional development.
Azerbaijan is actively participating in the implementation of the North-South and East-West transport corridors. The creation and commissioning of the trans-Caspian international route and the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway are important projects. Especially, Azerbaijan is the initiator of a major energy project called the Southern Gas Corridor. This is an energy cooperation and energy security project. These energy and transport corridors do not just imply energy and cargo transportation. These are comprehensive cooperation corridors.
Collaboration and friendship
Deputy Minister Ramiz Hasanov called relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam as historical as the collaboration and friendship which started long before the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence. National leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and President Ho Chi Minh were founders of these strong relations. The visit of the first President of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan in 1959, and the visit of the national leader and founder of the modern Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev to Vietnam in 1983 laid the foundation for the friendly relations between the two peoples.
During the visit in 1959, President Ho Chi Minh asked Azerbaijan to help Vietnam in setting up oil production, provide education and create training opportunities for Vietnamese specialists. Azerbaijan responded to this appeal by sending thousands of Azerbaijani experts to the Southeast Asian country where they participated in the reconstruction and development of post-war Vietnam.
Thousands of Vietnamese students were admitted to different schools and universities in Azerbaijan. The relationship of trust and sincere friendship between the two peoples has been pushed forward and shape extensive bilateral cooperation between the two countries nowadays.
Today, Vietnam is one of the key partners of Azerbaijan in Southeast Asia. Therefore, the deputy minister confirmed that the establishment of the embassy of Azerbaijan in Hanoi in 2013 was a clear indication of Azerbaijan’s intention to develop relations with Vietnam.
Azerbaijan strongly hopes that Vietnam will consider opening its embassy in Baku as Azerbaijan believes in the effectiveness of joint diplomatic efforts in bringing bilateral relations to a new height.
“It is with great pleasure I would like to acknowledge that relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam have been expanding and deepening in recent years with more dynamism in mutually beneficial way. The friendly relationship between the two countries has been constantly consolidating, developing and offering numerous opportunities to expand cooperation in all spheres of mutual interest including within the framework of the international organizations, such as United Nations and Non-Aligned Movement. I strongly believe on the bright future of the traditionally friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam,” the Deputy Minister Ramiz Hasanov said.
