CDC removes Vietnam from list of global epidemic zones

The removal was made after Vietnam has reported no new cases over the past 20 days and all 16 infected people have recovered.

The news was confirmed at a teleconference on February 27 with the participation of representatives of CDC, the US Department of State, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Embassy of Vietnam in the US, Zing has reported.

At the event, representatives from CDC and HHS highly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts in combating the epidemic thanks to the country’s good combination of supervision, quarantine, and treatment.

So far, all 16 people in Vietnam infected with Covid-19 have recovered.

Representatives of CDC said they are planning to visit Vietnam in the second half of March to promote cooperation between the two countries and the establishment of CDC’s Regional Office in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, HHS gets ready to support Vietnam with disease-prevention equipment.

The aforementioned plans are expected to be among important issues which would be reached at the ASEAN-US Special Summit in Las Vegas on March 14.

Recently, both American authorities and businesses have been interested in health cooperation with Vietnam.

A delegation to Vietnam on March 3-6 would be comprised of more than 20 companies specializing in health and pharmaceuticals, according to the US-ASEAN Business Council.

CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan city, Hubei province, China. The disease has now been detected in 50 locations internationally, including the US.
