Cheaper flights open new options for travelers in Vietnam

Vietnam’s tourism industry is rebounding strongly and lower airfare is giving both locals and visitors more reasons to travel.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam Airlines has launched a weekly discount program offering passengers 15% off fares every Thursday until December 31, 2025.

The initiative applies to both domestic and international routes, making travel more affordable and easing pressure on tourism demand.

The concept of “Brilliant Thursdays” is straightforward.

For domestic passengers, cheaper midweek fares suit business schedules and family getaways. “The process was simple, and the savings were clear. As a student, every discount matters, and this program makes it possible for me to see more of the country,” said Le Minh Quan, a university student in Ho Chi Minh City.

International travelers also benefit from the promotion. The program covers popular routes to Asia, Europe, and Australia, offering savings on flights to Tokyo, Seoul, Paris, or Sydney. Midweek departures mean smoother airport experiences, often with fewer lines and less stress.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is a leading four-star global airline blending cultural heritage and high-quality services.

The program arrives as Vietnam’s tourism sector continues to grow. According to the General Statistics Office, the country welcomed nearly 10.7 million international visitors in the first half of 2025, up 21% year-on-year and equal to 49% of the full-year target.

Industry experts note that airfares can account for 50% to 70% of a travel budget. A 15% discount helps reduce costs, enabling tourists to allocate more spending to hotels, restaurants, and cultural attractions.

Local businesses in destinations such as Ha Long, Hoi An, and Nha Trang are expected to benefit from increased weekday visitors. The ripple effects extend beyond airlines, supporting jobs and boosting local economies.

Nguyen Thanh Ha, a frequent business traveler from Hanoi, shared her excitement. “I travel to Ho Chi Minh City twice a month. Knowing I can save 15% on my Thursday flights helps me plan ahead and makes my trips more affordable,” she said.

For inbound tourism, the promotion provides an additional incentive. Affordable flights encourage more visitors to choose Vietnam as a destination. Their spending then supports the wider economy, from hospitality to handicrafts.

Vietnam Airlines has clarified that while eligible routes may change, the discount itself will remain fixed until the program ends. This reassurance allows families and businesses to plan trips well in advance. Clear timelines make the offer more attractive.

International travelers arrive at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

As Vietnam competes with other Southeast Asian markets, affordable flights play a decisive role in attracting both domestic and international travelers. Consistent discounts such as “Blooming Thursdays” make planning easier, encourage regular air travel, and position Vietnam as a more accessible destination.

Cheaper airfares are not only filling planes but also reshaping travel culture. By lowering barriers, Vietnam Airlines helps bring the experience of flying closer to everyday life, reinforcing tourism as a driver of growth and cultural exchange.
