Cultural heritage celebrated at thousand-year temple in Hanoi

THE HANOI TIMES — The traditional commemoration of the passing of Genie Huyen Thien Tran Vu was held on March 31 at Quan Thanh Temple, a special national relic built in the 11th century in Hanoi's Ba Dinh District.

All the major rituals, including the procession of sacred objects, the reading of legends and miracles, and the offering of incense, were conducted with respect.

One of the new highlights of this year's celebration was the award ceremony of a writing contest entitled "Beautiful Handwriting and Writing About Relics" for primary and secondary school students in the area, attracting a large number of entries, showing the pride of the youth in cultural heritage.

On this occasion, the Relic Management Board launched an official fan page called "Quan Thanh Temple" to promote the site through digital platforms.

The festival featured various exhibition areas that provided visitors with engaging experiences. These included calligraphy displays in honor of Genie Tran Vu, reenactments of traditional Tet customs, scholar tents, and opportunities to try on traditional Vietnamese costumes such as Nhat Binh, Tu Than, and Ngu Than. These activities provided visitors with a deeper and more diverse understanding of cultural heritage in the thousand-year Thang Long - Hanoi.

Another notable highlight was the launch of the "Tran Vu Quan Khanh" souvenir, inspired by an ancient gong cast in 1677. Hundreds of items have received positive feedback and the local authorities continue to work with artisans and cultural researchers to develop a distinctive line of heritage-inspired gifts.

Vice Chairwoman of the Ba Dinh District People's Committee, Pham Thi Diem, speaks at the event.

To promote the thousand-year relic, the temple will launch a new night tour experience called "Tran Vu Bell," with a trial run in May 2025 and an debut in August.

The tour aims to immerse visitors in a captivating blend of spiritual atmosphere, historical narrative, and cultural engagement. By offering a deeper and more evocative experience of the temple's heritage, it is expected to raise the profile of Quan Thanh Temple as a distinctive and enriching stop on Hanoi's cultural tourism map.
