Economic & Urban Newspaper hosts filial piety tribute amid national celebrations
The special art program “Grateful for Parents 2025” seeks to honor the enduring Vietnamese tradition of “when drinking water, remember its source,” a noble expression of filial piety and reverence for parents, martyrs, and heroic Vietnamese mothers.
THE HANOI TIMES — A special program honoring the sacred bond between parents and children will take place tonight, September 18, at 8:10 PM at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace in Cua Nam Ward.
The event is held coincided with the Vu Lan season, a traditional time in Vietnamese culture dedicated to filial piety. Organized as a meaningful tribute, the program aims to highlight core moral values and the enduring importance of family ties deeply rooted in Vietnamese tradition.

Since 2017, the program has been jointly organized by Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper (Economic & Urban), Phu nu Viet Nam Newspaper (Vietnamese Women), and Oscar Media. Over the years, it has become a significant cultural event in the capital, held annually during the seventh lunar month, a time when Vietnamese people nationwide express gratitude toward their forebears.
Editor-in-Chief of Kinh te & Do thi newspaper Nguyen Thanh Loi, said: “A parent’s merit is as boundless as the sky and the sea- nothing in this world can compare. Yet in the hurried rhythm of modern life, we sometimes forget the quiet, enduring sacrifices our parents make. Vu Lan, therefore, serves as a sacred reminder: cherish and fulfill your filial duties while your parents are still with you. Do not wait until ‘the flowers have withered at the doorstep’ to feel the pain of regret,”
This year’s program carries added significance as it takes place in the context of numerous national activities celebrating the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - 2025) and the National Day of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - 2025).
It presents a valuable opportunity to express respect and gratitude to those who have contributed to the country's independence and freedom. They included Vietnamese heroic mothers, martyrs and soldiers who sacrificed for the Fatherland.
The organizers thoughtfully arranged an inviting rest area with light refreshments for spectators outside the auditorium.
The program also seeks to nurture and instill in the younger generation the values of filial piety, patriotism, and civic consciousness.
The art program “Grateful for Parents 2025” is expected to run for 120 minutes and is structured into three thematic chapters. The first chapter, titled “Vietnamese Mother,” portrays the sacred bond between motherhood and the homeland, highlighting the quiet but immeasurable contributions of Vietnamese mothers to the shaping of the nation.
The second chapter of the program, titled “Gratitude of Parent,” expresses deep appreciation for the enduring love and sacrifices of parents, whose calloused hands and gentle hearts have quietly nurtured their children’s growth.
Through emotional performances and poignant storytelling, the segment evokes a deep sense of sorrow and reflection, particularly among those who may not have had the chance to express their love or repay their parents’ care.
It resonates deeply with the audience, offering a mirror to shared human experiences and stirring a collective stream of belated tears.
The program promises to leave a deep and memorable impression on its audience.
The third chapter, themed “Filial Piety Duty,” delivers a poignant message about the enduring relevance of filial piety in contemporary life. It serves as a heartfelt reminder to honor and care for one’s parents while time still allows, encouraging individuals to express love not only in thought, but through tangible actions and sincere words in the present moment.
In particular, this year’s program deeply moved audiences with a series of heartfelt reports documenting visits and expressions of gratitude to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, individuals with meritorious service, and those facing hardship in various provinces and cities across the country, including Hanoi, Danang, Ha Tinh, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, and others.
The poignant images and heartfelt reflections of the Mothers stirred profound emotions, awakening a deep sense of gratitude and filial devotion in viewers. This moving series of commemorative activities also reflected the genuine compassion and respect of the Organizing Committee.
The program features a rich repertoire of music and dance performances by renowned Vietnamese artists, including Diva My Linh, Mai Tuyet Hoa, Vi Oanh, Minh Quan, Kyo York, the Tre Dance Group, and the Sao Tuoi Tho Club. Their artistic contributions are sure to evoke profound emotions and leave a lasting impression on all in attendance.
Program General Director Mai Thanh Tùng shared: “This year’s production integrates diverse art forms like folk music, dance, poetry, and drama with contemporary stagecraft to convey meaningful messages of gratitude toward parents, martyrs, and heroic Vietnamese mothers, especially during the Vu Lan season of remembrance.”
Through each successive year, the “Grateful for Parents” program continues to attract an expanding audience, furthering the dissemination of Vietnam’s beautiful cultural values- where gratitude and filial piety remain timeless virtues that bind generations together.
