Hands-on activities to be held across Hanoi for Youth Month

The activity aims to encourage young people to engage in constructive activities, develop leadership skills and contribute to the development of their communities.

Many practical activities and initiatives will be carried out across Hanoi to celebrate Vietnam Youth Month, an annual celebration held in March to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union [March 26, 1931-2025].

The event, which runs from mid-February to March 31, is an important opportunity for the capital's youth to promote their spirit of volunteerism.

Chu Hong Minh, secretary of the Hanoi Youth Union, said that over the past 22 years since its inception, Youth Month has promoted the spirit of initiative, volunteerism and creativity of young people nationwide and in Hanoi in carrying out political, economic and social tasks.

"The month-long event is dedicated to promoting and empowering the country's youth, who are seen as the future of Vietnam. Volunteer activities among union members, youth and children in Hanoi have become more regular recently," Minh said.

The campaign aims to encourage young people to engage in constructive activities, develop leadership skills and contribute to the development of their communities, Minh said, adding that it is expected that Youth Month 2025 will involve at least 10,000 union members and young people in volunteer activities for community life and social security.

The secretary said that Hanoi youth has carried out about 1,400 projects to demonstrate the spirit of dedication, volunteering for difficult and new tasks, and building urban civilization.

"The capital's youth will build and maintain more than 400 civilized road projects with the criteria of 'Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful'; more than 150 relics and nearly 1,000 electric cabinets; renovate and build hundreds of new child-friendly toilets and children's playgrounds in schools and residential areas," Minh said.

According to Nguyen Duc Tien, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Youth Union and Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union, the capital's youth have been actively engaged in thousands of projects and volunteer work. Wall murals, flowering electric poles, and youth flower gardens are being replicated, in addition to activities that help educate people to dispose of garbage in the right places and classify waste.

Volunteer activities such as planting, caring, and protecting trees, classifying waste at source, launching a campaign to limit plastic waste, distributing plastic and recycling bags, and organizing a "trash for gifts" program, among others, have attracted massive youth participation, he said.

"The campaign has helped raise awareness of environmental protection among youth union members, young people, and all city residents - an opportunity to bring young people together to keep the capital bright, green, clean, and beautiful," Tien added.

In addition, the creativity of young people in Hanoi in using information technology to digitize street information has won the support of Party committees, authorities, and local people.

"They digitized information about 10 streets named after famous people. Just below the street name sign, there is an additional panel with information and a QR code. The information is presented in bilingual Vietnamese-English, which is convenient for people and tourists to look up," Tien said.

"In 2025, we set a target to get at least 80% of Hanoi Youth Union members to install the iHanoi application; support the introduction and promotion of at least one product that will be registered to join the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program," the deputy secretary emphasized.
