Hanoi achieves record-breaking tourism revenue during National Day holiday

Hanoi has emerged as the leading destination for domestic and international tourists during the four-day National Day holiday, thanks to a diverse range of cultural events and historical experiences.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi welcomed nearly 2.1 million visitors during the National Day holiday [September 2], tripling the figure from the same period in 2024.

International arrivals exceeded 80,000, marking a 35% year-on-year increase, while total tourism revenue was estimated at VND4.5 trillion (US$183.7 million), an 80% increase.

The hospitality sector recorded strong growth, with many three-to-five-star hotels fully booked on September 1.

Notable properties including Novotel Thai Ha, Novotel Suites, Lacasa Hanoi, Bao Son, and Grand Mercure reported 100% occupancy. Overall, the city’s average hotel and tourist apartment occupancy reached 83%, up 23% from last year.

In terms of service quality, the Hanoi Department of Tourism confirmed that businesses across the city complied with regulations on security, safety, and food hygiene standards.

Several key tourist attractions also saw strong visitor turnout during the holiday period are including Hanoi Zoo with around 33,000 visitors; the Temple of Literature welcoming 18,000 visitors; Hoa Lo Prison Relic receiving 26,000 visitors; Thang Long Imperial Citadel greeting 33,000 visitors; Co Loa Citadel 5,670 visitors; Ao Vua Tourist Area 2,000 visitors; and Ba Vi National Park with nearly 3,200 visitors.

In addition, domestic tourists accounted for 60% of total tour bookings during this holiday. City tours and historical excursions saw a surge in demand, with many tour operators fully booked one to two months in advance.

Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, attributed the sector's impressive performance to the appeal of the National Day parade as well as numerous cultural and historical events.

“One of the highlights was the Sac Do Ba Dinh (Red Color of Ba Dinh) event, which successfully promoted Hanoi’s culture, history, and tourism potential,” he said.

From August 30 to September 2, the 800-meter-long Truc Bach walking street in Ba Dinh Ward has transformed into a vibrant stage with 28,000 red national flags. Throughout the four-day program, visitors can explore diverse cultural spaces.

The exhibition “80 Years of the August Revolution and  National Day ” retraced milestones of the nation, while decorative photo zones and tourism displays encouraged participants to create their own memories of the celebration.

With continued investment in infrastructure, events, and services, Hanoi is well-positioned to maintain its momentum and further strengthen its role as a leading tourism hub in Vietnam and the region.
