Hanoi celebrates Vietnam's ethnic diversity

THE HANOI TIMES —The Vietnam Ethnic Village of Culture & Tourism, located in the suburbs of Hanoi, will host a series of events under the theme “Cultural Colors of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups.”

Held from April 1 to May 4, the festival in response to Vietnam's Ethnic Culture Day [April 19] features cultural characteristics, food, and specialties of 16 ethnic groups across the country.

The event will bring together artisans and representatives of 16 ethnic groups, including Tay, Nung, H'Mong, Muong, Ede, and Khmer from various regions of Vietnam, from the northern mountains of Ha Giang to the central highlands of Dak Lak and the southern Mekong Delta.

A central feature of the festival is the Highland Rendezvous program, which recreates the traditional highland market scene. Visitors can explore 40 booths featuring local products such as brocade textiles, handicrafts, medicinal herbs, and local specialties.

The Lai Chau Provincial Tourism Department will host a photo exhibition featuring images of highland markets and remarkable landscapes in Vietnam's ethnic regions. Visitors will also be able to enjoy performances of the Then singing of the Tay and Nung people, the Khen dance of the H'Mong, and the Sap (bamboo) dance of the Thai.

At the weekends, traditional ceremonies such as the Khmu's spirit worship ritual and the Thai's wine festival will provide a deeper understanding of the customs and spiritual practices of these communities.

The Vietnam Ethnic Village of Culture & Tourism  is an open-air museum featuring a variety of traditional houses, including the Ede Long House, the Tay Stilt House, and the H'Mong House. These structures reflect the architectural diversity of Vietnam's ethnic groups.

For travelers coming from Hanoi, the village is easily accessible by motorbike, car or bus. Electric buggies are also available at the tourist site for added convenience. This festival offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the traditions and cultures of Vietnam's ethnic communities, showcasing the country's rich cultural heritage in one place.
