Hanoi, Cuba strengthen cooperation in healthcare, agriculture

Both sides expect further cooperation and investment between pharmaceutical companies and hospitals in Hanoi and Cuba shortly.

Hanoi and Cuba are set to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including healthcare and agriculture.

The view was shared during a meeting on December 20 between the Standing Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Nguyen Thi Tuyen, and Cuba’s Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas in Hanoi.

At the meeting, Tuyen welcomed the visit of the Cuban Ambassador to the municipal Party Committee following the successful trip of Hanoi’s delegation to Cuba, expressing her appreciation for the warm welcome and special affection of the Cuban counterpart.

Tuyen noted during her tour to Cuba, the Hanoi delegation and Havana’s authorities had discussed experience on Party building, socio-economic development, and measures to boost cooperation in public health, including the family doctor model.

The Hanoi delegation presented Havana’s authorities and people with 2,000 tons of rice.

“We expect further cooperation and investment activities between pharmaceutical companies and hospitals between Hanoi and Cuba,” Tuyen said.

On this occasion, Tuyen thanked the Ambassador and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam for their support in making her trip to Cuba a success and urged both sides to soon carry out the cooperation programs agreed upon on occasion, especially in preparation for the visit of the First Secretary of the Havana Party Committee.

For his part, Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen highlighted the successful trip of the Hanoi delegation to Cuba, saying both sides hold huge potential for further cooperation, especially in pharmacy and agricultural production.

The Ambassador reiterated his commitment to supporting cooperation programs between Hanoi and Cuba, as well as preparing for the upcoming trip of the First Secretary of the Havana Party Committee to Hanoi in 2023.

The Hanoi Vice Party chief suggested healthcare would be the focus for cooperation between Hanoi and Havana in the coming time and called for both sides to promote exchange activities among medical experts, doctors, and staff.

Tuyen expected the strong ties between Hanoi and Havana would help nurture and strengthen the solidarity and long-standing friendship between the two countries.
