Hanoi expands cashless parking payment pilot program

Hanoi is advancing its efforts to integrate technology into urban management by expanding the pilot program for cashless parking payments across the city.

The second phase of the project launched by the Hanoi People’s Committee aims to streamline vehicle parking operations and support the city's transition toward a smart urban transport system by 2030.

The expanded program will allow drivers to find parking spaces and make payments through a digital platform, reducing cash transactions and increasing transparency in fee collection. By June 30, 2025, the system is expected to be fully operational citywide. To ensure compliance, only individuals and businesses implementing the cashless payment system will be eligible for new or renewed parking permits on public roads and sidewalks.

Authorities are also integrating electronic toll collection accounts into the system, allowing seamless cashless payments for both parking and road usage. The initiative aligns with Hanoi’s broader strategy to digitalize public services and improve traffic management.

The Hanoi Department of Transport is leading the project, working with relevant agencies to enforce regulations, oversee licensing, and ensure technological infrastructure is in place. District-level governments are responsible for monitoring compliance and promoting awareness campaigns to encourage widespread adoption.

The city is pushing for 100% of parking facilities to transition to digital payment solutions. Security measures will be reinforced to safeguard transactions, ensuring public trust in the new system.
