Capital targets higher power output in 2026
Hanoi aims to boost electricity output in 2026 through grid upgrades, renewable energy and efficiency gains.
THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi plans to produce 30.5-31 billion kWh of commercial electricity in 2026, an increase of 16.6%-18.5% year-on-year, according to a citywide power development plan.

The plan sets clear targets for supply reliability, grid upgrades, renewable energy expansion and digital electricity services, with energy efficiency as a core priority.
Under the roadmap, the city aims to keep power losses below 3.2%, cap average outage duration on the medium-voltage grid at under 110 minutes and achieve electricity savings equal to 2.2% of total consumption.
Local authorities will focus on fully digitalizing electricity access and customer services, tightening oversight of high-voltage safety corridors and resolving 50%-70% of violations involving illegal occupation of power poles and transformer stations in each locality.
Hanoi will also accelerate the undergrounding of power cables in inner-city districts and well-planned urban areas, while promoting direct electricity sales to replace master-meter systems.
The plan prioritizes renewable energy investment, particularly rooftop and centralized solar power, alongside waste-to-energy and biomass projects. In parallel, the city will continue upgrading the power grid to ensure stable and reliable supply.
Authorities will apply advanced technologies and automation to build a smart power system that supports Hanoi’s green growth objectives.
The Department of Industry and Trade will serve as the standing body of the city’s Power Development Steering Committee, coordinating implementation, supporting renewable energy projects and overseeing the digital transformation of electricity services across the capital.
