Hanoi eyes stronger support for businesses in times to come

Hanoi is committed to providing stronger support for businesses to overcome current difficulties and grasp opportunities in the future.

Vice-Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen stressed the view in the Thang Long Entrepreneur Gala 2021 on December 27, held to honor 200 outstanding enterprises representing more than 318,000 members of Hanoi’s business community for their contribution to the capital city development.

According to Quyen, though the Covid-19 pandemic has caused severe impacts on enterprises, it did not prevent them from joining hands with the city in fighting the pandemic and keeping their businesses afloat, in turn contributing to social welfare.

Quyen made special mention of many businesses having to make financial support for the vaccine funds and donating medical equipment for localities, noting these are the meaningful deeds of the business community for the city and Vietnam overall.

He called for businesses to continue promoting solidarity and entrepreneurship for innovation, improving corporate governance models, and accelerating digitalization.

Quyen stressed the city would continue to support businesses for them to be able to make greater contributions to the development of Hanoi and to realize their role as a key driving force for socio-economic development.

At the Gala, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Hanoisme) Mac Quoc Anh added the business community has been a decisive factor for Hanoi’s development over the years.

As of present, Hanoi is home to a large business community of over 300,000 members, 1,400 cooperatives, and 177,000 business households in operation.

“The private sector currently makes up 66% of the GRDP of Hanoi, 83% of the total workforce, and 97% of trade revenue,” Anh said.

On behalf of the Hanoi business community, General Director of DGroup Le Dung said the city’s recognition has been a source of encouragement for businesses to continue contributing to society.

Dung also expected further support from the authorities for businesses to overcome the current economic hardship and thrive in the post-pandemic world.
