Hanoi has new Mayor for 2021-2026 term

The newly-elected Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Tran Sy Thanh, stressed his commitment to continue pushing for administrative reform and enhance efficiency in the operation of the public apparatus.

The 16th Hanoi People’s Council in its 8th session today [July 22]  elected Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Tran Sy Thanh as the city’s mayor for the 2021-2026 term with endorsing vote of 100% of the deputies present.

Thanh, 51, previously held the position of State Auditor General before being appointed Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee by the Politburo on July 1 and nominated for Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee.

Following the voting result, Thanh expressed his pride to be elected as the city’s new mayor, but also stressed the huge responsibility of meeting the expectation of the Party, local Government, voters, and the people of Hanoi.

He affirmed his commitment to working alongside other members of the People’s Committee in ensuring the realization of Hanoi’s development objectives set out in Politburo’s Resolution No.15 on the vision for the city until 2030.

“Priorities would be given to three breakthroughs which are upgrading the socio-economic infrastructure, refining a legal framework for greater efficiency in social governance and urban management, and developing high-quality workforces,” Thanh said.

Leaders of Hanoi congratulate the newly-elected Chairman.

Thanh is expected to help Hanoi transform comprehensively in the 2021-2026 period, and gradually fulfill its role of becoming a growth driver for the Red River Delta region and the country overall.

"Hanoi would become a global city with comprehensive development in economic and socio-cultural aspects, comparable with the capitals of advanced countries in the region and around the world," Thanh added.

“The goal would be for Hanoi to become a city worth living in,” he said.

For these visions to come true, Thanh called for the entire political system to push for administrative reform and enhance the efficiency in the operation of the public apparatus.

“Every citizen and company should benefit from the administrative reform process, with public satisfaction seen as the gauge of public agencies' performance,” he asserted.
