Hanoi has new vice chairman

The Hanoi People’s Council elected the new Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee last week with a 100% endorsement rate.

THE HANOI TIMES — Truong Viet Dung, Chief of Office of the Hanoi People’s Committee, has been officially appointed as Vice Chairman of the committee for the 2021–2026 term.

The appointment was approved under Decision No. 1159/QD-TTg, signed by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh on June 14, 2025, following the result of the recent election.

Dung is a member of the Hanoi Party Committee and has held key administrative roles within the city's leadership apparatus. His new position is expected to further strengthen Hanoi’s executive team in the ongoing 2021–2026 term.

The appointment was ratified under Decision No. 1159/QD-TTg, signed by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh on June 14, 2025. The decision takes effect immediately from the date of signing.

Earlier, the 16th Hanoi People's Council convened its 23rd extraordinary session on June 13 to consider key personnel matters. At the session, 100% of attending delegates voted in favor of the resolution electing Dung to the new post and Deputy Head of the Hanoi Delegation of National Assembly Pham Thi Thanh Mai as the Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Council.

Born on June 19, 1980, in Ha Dinh Ward, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi, Dung holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics, a Master's degree in Architecture, and an advanced degree in Political Theory.

Recognized early on as an outstanding student, Dung was granted a special appointment to government service. Over the years, he has held a number of key roles in the city’s administration, including Chief of Office of the Delegation of the National Assembly and the People's Council of Hanoi, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment, and most recently, Chief of Office of the Hanoi People's Committee.

His appointment is expected to further strengthen Hanoi’s leadership team as the city advances its development agenda during the ongoing 2021–2026 term.
