Hanoi launches Lifelong Learning Week 2025 to boost digital literacy

Localities and schools across Hanoi design and implement a series of activities in response to the week-long campaign.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi officially launched Lifelong Learning Week 2025 on October 2, urging citizens to embrace continuous education, self-study and digital transformation as key drivers of the city’s development.

Themed “Learning to develop yourself, master knowledge and technology, contributing to building a strong and prosperous country,” the week-long campaign runs until October 7 with seminars, workshops, and contests on digital skills, robotics, artificial intelligence, and safe online practices.

Pham Tuan Long, Chairman of Cua Nam Ward People's Council, shared the idea with The Hanoi Times, stressing the urgency of motivating communities to enhance a culture of continuous learning at his ward’s opening ceremony to kick off Lifelong Learning Week 2025.

Long expressed his hope that the Hanoi government will to create an environment which facilitates regular study for all citizens. "I also expect that families to promote the tradition of studiousness, setting an example for the younger generation."

Throughout the week, Cua Nam Ward will launch the movement to build digital libraries and bookcases at educational institutions and in the community. Each kindergarten, primary school and secondary school in the area will build a digital bookcase and electronic library for shared use.

Nguyen Anh Thy, a student of class 8E1 at Ngo Si Lien Secondary School in Cua Nam Ward, said: "As a student of the digital age, I'm aware of the role of technology for the country’s future. Education is not only about passing exams, but also about fostering creativity and adapting to the constant changes of the 4.0 era."

"With things learned, I have realized that lifelong learning is helpful for all of us and I try to be ready to learn, to move forward, whether the path ahead is artificial intelligence or biotechnology," Thy shared with The Hanoi Times.

The week features seminars, practical workshops, digital skills competitions, and training sessions on how to search and use online information safely and effectively for both students and the public.

During the launching ceremony, leaders of the People's Committee of Tay Ho Ward urged citizens to proactively engage in continuous and lifelong learning with the importance of applying information technology and digital platforms to create equal and convenient learning opportunities for all citizens, especially vulnerable groups.

"The week aims to further promote a widespread learning movement among all social strata, enhancing awareness of the significance of education, particularly self-study and lifelong learning, which are essential for mastering knowledge and technology for personal improvement," Nguyen Viet Cuong, Vice Chairman of Tay Ho Ward People's Committee, told The Hanoi Times.

He stressed that the week also seeks to foster the responsibility, concern and active participation of all levels of government, sectors, and organizations in the development of a reading culture, as well as the promotion of lifelong learning.

“Authorities will lead with disseminating the role of self-learning and lifelong learning, particularly in relation to mastering knowledge and technology,” said Cuong.

Localities are encouraged to hold seminars and forums with experts on technological trends, digital knowledge, and effective learning methods. Awareness campaigns will also reflect UNESCO’s motto “Learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be", along with other key messages that align with the event.

Meanwhile, schools and institutions are advised to stage contests and experiential activities on new knowledge and digital technology, such as programming, digital content creation, robotics, artificial intelligence applications and data science.

The Lifelong Learning Week 2025 is also taking place nationwide with a view to fostering the learning movement across the community and raise public awareness of the crucial role and significance of continuous education.
