Hanoi mayor calls for urgent construction of Tu Lien Bridge

Tu Lien Bridge project, estimated to cost VND22 trillion (US$860 million), is one of Hanoi’s key transportation infrastructure projects, part of the city’s Transport Master Plan to 2030 with a vision to 2050

THE HANOI TIMES — Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh has ordered local authorities to take all necessary measures to break ground on Tu Lien Bridge and its access roads on May 19, 2025.

Earlier on March 13, the mayor chaired a meeting to review the progress of the construction of the Tu Lien Bridge, the Tran Hung Dao Bridge, and the Ngoc Hoi Bridge and their approach roads.

Following the directives of the Party and State leaders to start the construction of these bridges soon to promote socio-economic development with a GDP growth target of over 8%, Thanh asked relevant agencies to review the project implementation tasks, prepare a detailed execution plan, and submit it to the People's Committee for approval by March 20.

Furthermore, the Department of Construction was tasked with advising the People's Committee on setting up an inter-agency working group to evaluate the investment projects.

This group, consisting of leaders from relevant departments, agencies, and district-level People's Committees, expedited the evaluation process and reported to the People's Committee by March 18.

The Hanoi Transport Infrastructure Investment and Construction Project Management Board must coordinate with district-level People's Committees to finalize project documents for submission and approval by March 20. It is also responsible for finalizing agreements and feasibility study reports for review by the Department of Construction.

The Department of Finance will lead and oversee the evaluation of bidding documents submitted by the Hanoi Transport Infrastructure Investment and Construction Project Management Board. It will support approval of a comprehensive contractor selection plan by March 28.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is tasked with completing the evaluation of environmental impact reports in parallel with the feasibility study process by March 27.

The Department of Planning and Architecture must work with Dong Anh District to identify specific plots of land to be vacated for resettlement as directed by the People's Committee.

The districts of Tay Ho, Long Bien, and Dong Anh are urged to expedite land acquisition, compensation, and site clearance procedures to ensure timely project groundbreaking and construction.

The Tu Lien Bridge project, approved by the prime minister, will be located between Nhat Tan Bridge and Long Bien Bridge, connecting Yen Phu and Tu Lien wards in Tay Ho District with Dong Anh District. The project includes the main bridge and approach roads of 5.5km, and a connecting road in Dong Anh District of approximately 6km.
