Hanoi meets vaccination goals ahead of schedule

Hanoi fulfills expanded immunization targets ahead of schedule, ensuring strong vaccine coverage and advancing public health protection across the city.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi completed all nine immunization targets, reaching 100% to 118% of the planned progress as of August 31, according to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Notably, the full immunization rate for eight essential vaccines among children under one year old reached 70%, measles–rubella vaccination for children aged 18–23 months reached 81%, the fourth dose of the DPT vaccine reached 71% and tetanus vaccination for pregnant women reached 70%.

Other targets, including hepatitis B at birth, polio, Japanese encephalitis, and Td vaccination for seven-year-old children, also met or exceeded progress.

The city also carried out simultaneous catch-up immunization campaigns, administering over 30,000 MR doses for measles–rubella, nearly 100 doses of MVVAX for measles as well as hundreds of DPT, Japanese encephalitis, OPV and IPV vaccines.

The Hanoi CDC also coordinated with local units to monitor suspected cases of vaccine-preventable diseases in communities and hospitals, detecting cases such as acute flaccid paralysis (7 cases), neonatal deaths (78 cases) and suspected measles/rubella (5,070 cases).

These results highlighted Hanoi’s strong efforts in ensuring immunization progress and quality, making a vital contribution to disease prevention and community health protection.
