Hanoi Metro sets ridership record, adds trains for National Day

Nearly 200,000 passengers used metro lines to travel to the central region of Hanoi as they attempted to attend the second military parade rehearsal celebrating the 80th National Day (September 2).

THE HANOI TIMES — Nearly 200,000 passengers traveled on Hanoi Metro on August 24, setting new records for both the Cat Linh – Ha Dong and Nhon – Hanoi Station lines as the city held its second military parade rehearsal.

The Cat Linh - Ha Dong line served over 146,000 passengers, setting a new record, while the Nhon - Hanoi Station route carried more than 50,000, marking a sharp rise compared to normal days.

Compared with the first rehearsal on August 21, ridership on Cat Linh – Ha Dong increased by more than 36,000 trips (33%), and that on Nhon – Hanoi Station rose by over 20,000 (67%).

These results highlight the company’s efforts and reflect growing public confidence in modern, safe, and eco-friendly urban rail transport.

To meet surging demand, Hanoi Metro has increased train frequency, extended operating hours, and managed passenger flow at major stations.

From August 30 to September 5, passengers traveling on the two metro lines will enjoy free tickets as a way to commemorate the National Day (September 2).

The company advised passengers to buy round-trip tickets in advance, queue in order, avoid pushing, and use restrooms inside or around stations before exiting.

Hanoi Metro also recommended that passengers follow its social media fanpage for schedule updates and to choose suitable travel times, especially during the National Day peak.

The consecutive ridership records underline the metro’s rising role in Hanoi’s public transport network and serve as a real test before the upcoming celebrations.

Traveling by metro has become a convenient way for citizens to get to the central wards of Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, and Giang Vo to cheer on the military soldiers and police officers as they march through the city and prepare for the grand celebration of the National Day.
