Hanoi requires health declaration after Tet holiday

Authorities in Hanoi have required people who will return to the city after the week-long Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday need to make health declaration with an aim to prevent the transmission of coronavirus from outside sources.

Each residential area needs to keep an eye on the health declaration, Chu Xuan Dung, deputy chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said at a meeting on February 13.

He noted that the local authorities don’t intend to trouble locals but it’s for the city’s fight against Covid-19.

For areas which are home to industrial parks, members of more than 10,000 Covid-19 public surveillance teams will keep their supervision on the compliance of safety measures after workers returning to the city. 

Dung also asked local authorities to keep a close watch on home quarantine of people who made contact with confirmed patients.

During Tet holiday, local authorities and the city’s health bodies are on stand by around the clock for the Covid-19 battle.

For schoolchildren, the city’s government will decide either coming back to school or continuing online lessons as they did one week before Tet holiday. The decision will be made at a meeting on February 16, Dung said.

As Ho Chi Minh City found Covid-19 transmission at Tan Son Nhat International Airport last week, Hanoi has conducted more than 12,300 tests for all staff working at Noi Bai International Airport. All of the tests show negative results.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Health Hoang Duc Hanh, Hanoi has confirmed 30 infections between January 28 and February 13. The city’s first cases are linked to Hai Duong, the hotspot of the fresh coronavirus outbreak  in Vietnam late January after two months. 

In Vietnam’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic so far, health declaration is among key measures helping local authorities to supervise suspected cases and trace contact when needed.
